Pollution in my City - Someone Needs to be Taught
Pollution is no doubt a product of man. It is not every day we see pollution resulting from natural events such as flooding, volcanoes, and others, but daily, you are bound to see one or more evidence of human influence on pollution.
Every man-made invention and technology has the potential to cause pollution on different scales.
With that out of the way, in this edition of the Hive Learners' featured posts, I will be delving into the subject of pollution and identifying the major causes of pollution in my area.
Humans and Pollution: A Case Study of My City
The beloved city where I reside shows daily and gives evidence of the fact that human activities are at the bedrock of pollution on earth today. Let's talk about some of these activities that are spearheading pollution in my city:
Illegal Crude Oil Refining
In a city blessed with crude, the illegal refining of crude is common. Most people are setting up artisan refineries to take part in the ever-flourishing illegal oil business.
The consequence of this is that, because these people have little experience and less sophisticated equipment for these activities, they end up causing harm to the environment as a result. The issue of soot is now a thing, and it's causing real damage to both human and environmental health.
Bad Waste Management Practices
Waste management in my city is a mess. We are producing more waste than we are able to manage. Visit almost every street in my city and you'll find waste littered about, poorly packed and waiting indefinitely for the waste collectors. Wastes are making my city uninhabitable, causing drainage blockages and unsightliness.
No One is Interested in Saving the Earth
Environmental conservation is not a topic that comes up in regular talks in my city, and the consequences of this lack of interest are serious, one of which is increased pollution.
People in my city struggle to think beyond working for daily bread and attempting to make a living because of poverty. Pollution, the environment, and other environmental issues do not occupy a prominent position among people in my environment.
As a result, most people do not make conscious efforts to prevent pollution in the environment, they dispose of waste carelessly, fail to take care of their machines, and allow their fumes to pollute the environment.
Rectification
People need to be educated. Policing people to make efforts to save the environment and prevent pollution is only effective as long as the police or onlooker is available.
Educating people and motivating them enough to deliberately make attempts to protect the environment and reduce pollution is one of the best approaches to solving the problem of pollution today.
Conclusion
At the end of the day, the issue of pollution will prevail as long as humans continue with their environmentally unfriendly activities and people remain uneducated. Environmental education is one of the most important approaches to achieving a pollution-free world. Until people learn to care for the environment and make conscious efforts to do so, pollution will continue to be a problem.
